The regular maintenance of the City water mains and fire hydrants is expected to begin on Monday, October 2, 2022 through Friday, November 4, 2022.
Flushing of fire hydrants will discharge sediment causing some customers to experience short periods of “rusty” or “discolored water.” Water discoloration is a normal occurrence during this type of cleaning and hydrant maintenance. If you experience rusty or discolored water, we recommend you run an outside spigot until water is clear. If an outside spigot is not available, run cold water through your bathtub or shower.
VMU schedules system flushing and cleansing on a regular basis to maintain and improve water quality for all customers. During this process, water samples are taken to measure and document the effectiveness of the City’s water treatment facilities. This is an important operational aspect of maintaining compliance with state and federal Drinking Water Regulations.
Any discoloration or interruption of water services should be minimal.
