Generation

Vineland Municipal Electric Utility (VMEU) owns and operates two (2) generating units capable of generating 110 MW. Additionally, VMEU  receives a monthly allocation of 4.1 megawatts of New York Power Authority hydroelectric power, and  maintains interconnections with Atlantic City Electric, and membership in the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland, Interconnection Association pool. Thus, the VNEU is able to meet the demands of its users even in times of emergency, and at times sells excess energy to other utilities when system conditions and economics warrant.

Over the past few years, VMEU has incorporated more renewable power generation. The first utility grade project to be completed was Vineland Solar One, a 4 MW solar field which has been in operation since the summer of 2009. Since then, VMEU has contracted four (4) more solar projects throughout the city bringing the grand total to 16 MW of renewable power under contract which saves over $1.2 million annually in capacity, energy, and transmission costs. These utility solar projects are in addition to almost 18 MW of customer behind the meter and grid solar projects within the city.  In fact, VMEU is ranked with the top utilities in the nation in solar energy production on a per customer basis.

VMEU’s core value is, and will remain, to keep the Electric Utility city owned maintaining the utility jobs and economic stimulus provided by the utility to the community.
